Is the game broken or am i stupid?

for some reason after i skip the tutorial to start a new game i cant place a 90% of the items in the game. Also for some reason room automatically connect into one space when i build them. Had neither of these problems in the tutorial but in the game itself i can just make buildings with one massive empty room occupied solely by empty shelves since that's all i can place. Is the game not working or am i just missing something obvious please help :(

I'm having the same issue. I can't place any objects when playing outside the tutorial.

Depend on what you put the building floors, use those on those building floors, you can't put washrooms items set up in warehouse or drug building floors. It has to be in washroom floor as long as it's staff washroom or customer washroom :D Etc thing that you want to set up warehouse make sure it's warehouse flooring.
