How do I missiles correctly?

I have been using them like, well, how I use bombs in other shooters... as a last resort defense

But then I 1 star :V

I see playthroughs wtih almost endless missiles and just coins every where!!! So naturally I'm not playing the game as intended... or maybe i'll just try for a pacifist run :B

don't use them as a last resort
if you want more rockets you have to hit enemies with them
the most important rockets are the first three because if you miss them it'll be really hard to get multiplier later

when you hit enemies with rockets you gain a multiplier which starts at 2x and caps at 16x, and the higher your multiplier, the more coins you get from killing enemies
more coins = more rockets = more coins so if you can keep this loop going you will never run out

as a side effect of getting more rockets and coins you also get more lives so you can make more mistakes
another side effect is your rocket explosions delete enemy bullets which makes it easier to survive in the first place

it's absolutely worth hitting things with rockets as often as you can but make sure to not run out

can you explain what the bonus is? i keep failing it and idk what it even is
