Sapiens

Sapiens

What is the "goal" of the game?
Is it to grow bigger and stuff? Can you keep your population very small if you want to? Thanks in advance.

The great thing about Sapiens is that you can do whatever you want. You can either try to get a big tribe or to just have a small tribe with a wonderfully decorated village, a "historically accurate" tribe with houses specific for a world region or a technically advanced tribe living in more complex two, three or even more stories buildings and using metallurgy.

You might want to find your own way of building your village, at one place altogether or with huts and houses near resources or as one of these majestic cities some players create.

Personally, I don't play Sapiens continuously but always return for a session of building and decorating a little bit. I love it because in contrast to most games it doesn't force me to go through a stupid tech tree (although there is a simple one) or to fulfil tasks in a certain order. and to work against time I also appreciate that for now there is no war system because most games make war a central feature of gameplay or even a goal itself.

Cool, thanks for the response! :)

My most played game on Steam is Stranded: Alien Dawn and this game looks similar in a lot of ways. I think I would really enjoy it.

I agreed, it comes down to how creative or challenging you want to be. I challenged myself to build a village starting w/ only one Sapient to start (technically there were two but I made one wonder off so they can leave from dissatisfaction) and it was very feasible. Adding restrictions like vegetarian diet, only building homes w/ a maximum of two or three occupants, there's a lot you can try out.

Stranded:Alien Dawn is more like Rimworld than this. Sapiens is fun, but it is not nearly as detailed as the aforementioned games.

I think Sapiens is rather unique, but it does borrow elements from other colony management games.

There's a lot of aspects that Stranded has that could make this game better. Showing resource amounts on the top of the screen, the ability to give people priority of tasks individually, the ability to give people tools (or clothes), etc.

But since people grow old and die more easily than Stranded, you can't really limit yourself TOO much with Sapiens...gotta constantly be adding people to the tribe to make sure you don't run out of people.

But I think it's similar enough. It's fun to play a new fresh game, even if I don't like it as much. I don't like the visual style of Rimworld and it's a major turn-off for me. Maybe because it's 2D? Sapiens has the nice simple art style, but yet still visually appealing.

And OMG, I can't believe it was less than 1 GB!
