As the game is constantly being changed through content updates and patches, it requires active mod authors, who keep their mods up to date.
If you don't want to lose your saves because of broken mods, you should play vanilla for now and only start using mods when the game is finished.
On the other hand, the game is in active development and thus not dead. To be fair, it's not dev's job to fix all the broken mods in the workshop, so use them on your own risk.
There is no supply chain complexity, no meaningful replayability? And very, very slow and uninspiring updates.
