People have always settled cities close to water, fishing being one reason.
Although I'm glad we don't have to micro with drinking water, the simplistic design is great imho.
Back to original subject: Chicken coops, it's a cool idea, although imho something prioritized maybe after family tree and fishing for example.

Meanwhile... don't let their absence from the game prevent you from building stuff that looks like the wheel has been invented ;)

-Agriculture (I haven't gotten very far in my adventures yet, I don't know if it's already implemented)
-Added livestock and their usefulness
-Added wild and aggressive fauna such as wolves, bears, wild boars, and cattle in the wild which could go from passive to aggressive if constantly disturbed by the present sapience
-The possibility of taming and making some useful for sapiens such as wolves: defense and would increase the happiness of sapiens who have one as a pet. The buffalo or the yak: agriculture especially as well as the milk supply and the possibility of having a varied diet linked to wheat and others. The wild boar: pig farming in a way.
-Addition of the well which must be built in a drinking water area. Only the oldest (wisdom dominates) would know how to find potential water sources.
-Addition of bees: if we capture the queen, it will be possible to produce our own breeding to improve agriculture and/or gardening: vegetables, fruits, flowers and various plants.
-If it is not yet taken, consider establishing rivers coming from the mountains to add fishing and using them for construction purposes: improving agriculture with irrigation, the use of the flow of water. water for a sawmill which would considerably increase the transformation of wood into boards
-Wooden and metal plows for agriculture (of course)
-Addition of rival clans and which would lead to the establishment of watchtower and trunk wall with portal: Add the garrison post, add the bow for hunting but also for defense
-Add to basic hunting the invention of the sling for more efficiency but also to use when defending the village.
-If setting up livestock breeding, see also setting up a manure reserve...for its obvious use.
-Later in the game, the discovery of oil or if it is not already visible on the surface on rare occasion hence the possible addition of lamps or varied means of lighting, tar which can be used almost everywhere .
-Added saw gear and defense like the tribuché, crossbow turrets usable by soldiers only
-Herbalist position for medical purposes
