Sapiens

Sapiens

Is it too much to ask for some textiles?
I love this game, but it comes with a glaring oversight: Textiles. In real life, textiles are a HUGE part of human culture and technology, with all sorts of applications - clothing, bags, housing, you name it. And its very old technology: the oldest confirmed textiles are 10,000 years old, and there's evidence that humans were producing textiles upwards of 27 thousand years ago! The oldest known sewing needles are 50k years old! Seeing as the endgame is in the Bronze Age, it makes me wonder why my sapians are still running around in fuzzy bikinis and loincloths.

We already have thread (flax twine) so why can't we weave simple cloth with it? Maybe weave hay to make grass clothing, or process wool-skins into wool thread/twine? From that we could make fabric, and from there clothes, cloth beds, bags for gatherers, tents, etc.

My suggestion for the weaving mechanic is simple: _ number of Sticks/Bamboo (2-3 IMO) + _ amount of twine = _ amount of fabric, and the sticks are returned. This matches backstrap looms, which have been used since the neolithic period, and could produce quite fine textiles.

I sure would love to be able to make some cozy rugs and put them all over the floors and walls of my Saps' dwellings :)
In Dave I belive, and I'm very impressed by this game so far so I guess it won't be too long untill we get some textiles. But first I suppose is fish.. maybe we get to make fishing-nets/traps too.
Cheers!

I think it is time for Dave to start hiring a small team, like 1-2 extra devs that can help on it when he can't.

Fibers date that old, there were bone needles found that are 50k years old but most likely to be used to sew hides.
But looms date 6000 AC. What time is sapiens dated (although not precise, i understand it's a game)?

Sapiens starts with the Paleolithic and ends with the Iron Age. You start with basic knowledge of gathering, and you end with the ability to make iron tools.

And here is something from google:

Paleolithic:
Earliest period of human history characterized by simple stone tools and hunter-gatherer lifestyles.
Mesolithic:
A transitional period between the Paleolithic and Neolithic, often seeing the development of microlithic tools and early forms of agriculture.
Neolithic:
Marked by the adoption of settled agriculture, domesticated animals, and more complex tool making techniques.
Bronze Age:
Characterized by the discovery of bronze, a metal alloy, leading to advancements in weaponry and tools.
Iron Age:
The final prehistoric period, marked by the widespread use of iron for tools and weapons.

So, I guess Sapiens follows this trail.
