You're going to be spamming your rifle or crossbow for 90% of the game though.
Not a lot of variety and upgrades don't feel like they justify the time invested to get them since they barely change the gameplay
The headline and the actual post seem to have no connection from what I understand, since soulslike games are not old-style FPS either.
The combos are mostly just for small fries and many enemies we can deal with easily. for bosses we rarely get to use any combos, before they start to counter. But it would be not bad to combine the several arsenal weapons and specific attacks for certain bosses. Shotgun seems to be always a great help and you could beat like prolly any boss with the carabiner alone but it would also make the fights immensely longer, since melee just seems to deal far more damage, especially if we can electrify them.
Depending on how good your aim skill and reaction time is, most fights but should be a cake. But we also dodge around even if we have no real endurance or stamina attributes. So... I would say it is rather a loot shooter as a soulslike.
And it is also not really a FPS game. since we play in third person and not only use ranged weapons. As much as we have RPG elements in it. Also we can also only aim with prolly 1 or 2 weapons for real. The carabiner or the x-bow, unless there are others to follow. But the pistol has no aiming.
