Not sure where $79.99 comes from - even the maximum price and without pre-order discount is $10 less.
When released, the base game will be $40. If I'm not mistaken, this is how much both Panzer Corps and Order of Battle (and in fact many other Slitherine games) cost when first released.
OP looks like they are from Canada, so maybe the currency conversion is higher?
Well, he mentioned "almost $80.00 USD", I cannot believe that the price for Canada is so much higher due to conversion, but what do I know. :)
Edit: Their taxes are higher too.
And it seems the game is more then worth its money, so no reason to complain.
