Slitherine publishes niche games and have a limited market at the best of times. Would they sell more copies with a lower price? Undoubtedly, but they'll have run the numbers and concluded that a premium price is the better way to go (because fans are willing to pay a lot more than casual gamers who wouldn't be that interested in the first place). If you're looking for a reason to justify charging the same for a small niche game as an AAA title published by EA or Actvision, that's the best you'll get.

There will apparently be a cheaper version out this evening once release time hits.

But it's only the higher priced Field Marshal Edition that's available for preorder right now and that includes a season pass.

After the official release (Today 18:00 GMT if everything works fine) the base game should be up on Steam for around $40,

What you see now is the Field Marshal Edition, which is the Deluxe Edition and the only one you could pre-order.

But the base game itself won't be that expensive.

what i would like to know is if the discount that the field marshall version had will be available to me. I was a beta tester and I was not allowed to pre purchase the edition with the nice little discount that they were offering.

I got the maximum edition for 44 Euro, which is fair considering all the extras we get. incl. 2 DLCs.

The game is $40. You're commenting on the price of an edition that includes extras and future DLC releases. Stop being childlike.
