The underlying problem is the absolutely terrible text input handling of the UI library I picked for the game 5 years ago, which I've regretted for a long time now. I've managed to work around its bugs in most of the UI but some places are still stubborn. If I could I would pick a different UI library, but that would imply rewriting the entire UI of the game from scratch, so it's not possible.
In 1.14 the text input for the icon will be removed, and instead only the file picker will be available. It's a radical solution but ATM it's the only way to make it work all the time, I'm afraid.
for now i guess i'll just upload it without a thumbnail and try again when it works again
it's ok i can just wait to upload it
no matter what, as soon as the file picker window closes, for a split second it makes the description text field in game disappear and then it follows by crashing a moment later
assuming it would help; im using Windows 10 home (version 22H2, build 19045.4780) with 32gb of 2667 MHz DDR4 memory installed, with my OS hosted on an SSD split into two 1TB partitions (operating system on the first partition, with the second being largely unused at the moment). there's also a HDD i use for games, which NIMBYrails is installed to through steam. then while i don't think it's relevant, i have an RTX 2060 GPU installed with of course fairly up to date drivers
the underlying issue does seem to be known (the text framework thing you said), but i'll be happy if any of this helps explain what specifically is causing this for me and that one other user who mentioned this previously and seemingly not others
perhaps something with it looking for a file from another drive? but still that wouldn't explain it crashing without any input (by cancelling the prompt)
anyway good luck
it seems to work ok enough for now, i managed to get the mod uploaded with a thumbnail properly, but it did take me fighting with the file picker prompt not wanting to close until i spammed the cancel button
but yea it did kinda work anyway
