Games saved between 1,17.1 and 1.17.4 might be corrupted. Do not use these save files.

Instead load your original 1.16 save file with 1.17.5, save it, and try to load it. If it keeps reporting a corrupted state, please send me the 1.16 file so I can reproduce the error and fix it, thank you!

Ahh ok, I did try it with a 1.16 save and it worked
I did have a lot of progress made with 1.17.2 (Saw which update it was), but because of the corruption, that will be lost, correct?

Welcome to beta testing. It is not to play the stuff first, but to find errors - sometimes fatal ones. So loosing progress is priced into participating in betas - at any game that offers public betas.

Maybe it will, maybe not. 1.17.6 includes some recovery code for some of these saves, it is possible your error is handled.
