Well, she does have some masculine characteristics in her face, also no typical female makeup, but I don't consider her ugly, she just not your average Lara Croft, she's like that by design.

Even in games and movies that are set in a post apocalyptic world (look at Mad Max) or in a Fantasy environment (Skyrim) women have makeup (and Skyrim even has mods to make the women look better which includes... makeup). It's not unrealistic to say that lack of makeup is something that makes people think she is less pretty, or ugly.

I think it's because her facial features are androgynous in appearance. Buzz her hair off and she'll look male. You could argue that it's more realistic that she looks like this but this is not a realistic game, therefore it isn't needed. There is no reason why they couldn't have made her attractive to look at, especially considering you have to look at her for 60 hours or however long the game is.

Thank goodness for PC mods. I'll be modding that face right out of the game soon enough.
