The common way is forgetting their initial army. Go to Henan, recruit some bandits, reclaim cities and store money and guns. You use the money and guns to train an army and the do something like return of the kings at the last 30 turns and that's all.
It's a little weird to give Xinjiang people and Mongolian 'Northern' trait because they may not speak Chinese.
It can be used in some long term warfare.
