Stuck at the first level gate? Have multiple monitors? Missing files? Check here for permanent fixes!
Hello everyone. Here is a list of common Manhunt problems and solutions for you all.

- Stuck at first gate/game randomly crashes -

I have a modified executable for Manhunt that I acquired a few years ago that will make Manhunt work properly for you and let you get past that first gate in the first level. This executable has NEVER failed me on many Manhunt installs across many different computers, including Macbooks that are bootcamp'd with Windows. I have confirmed it working on Windows Vista 32/64 bit, Windows 7 32/64 bit, and Windows 8/8.1 32/64 bit, so I figured I'd share it with you all to save you the headache.

Just make sure you have a unmodified version of Manhunt, and download this .exe:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/8v6f8v

Click the "Click here to start download from sendspace" link, and nothing else.

Just overwrite your existing manhunt.exe with this one, and you should be good to go! The directory for the game is at:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\manhunt" for a 64 bit OS
-OR-
"C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\manhunt" for a 32 bit OS.

If you happen to not be able to boot Manhunt after installing the new .exe, you will need to make a DEP exception. See here: http://www.itechtalk.com/thread3591.html

NOTE: YOU ONLY NEED TO MAKE A DEP EXCEPTION IF THE GAME WILL NOT LAUNCH AFTER INSTALLING NEW PATCH. If you install the patch and click play, and see no launcher or anything pop up, this is when you need to make a DEP exception - otherwise, if the game launches, do NOT make an exception! Chances are you won't need to mess with DEP; Steam should do this for you automatically.

NOTE 2: Some users have also mentioned that their antivirus client flags this program as malicious. This is due to the way it has been modified and how it doesn't work with DEP properly. I promise you, this is not malicious in any way. Many have downloaded my file and have had -zero- issues, nor has any Steam user here downloaded my file and complained about their PC getting infected with malicious content. If you are still worried that this file is malicious, there is a simple fix for that - don't download this file.

-----------------------------------------------------

- Multiple monitor fix -

I have received many reports of an issue with this game running a PC with multiple monitors. From what I have been told, playing the game on one monitor, and having the other monitor active for whatever else, moving the mouse outside of the game screen and onto the other and clicking will cause the game to minimize. (I personally only run one large monitor so I have therefore never experienced this issue). Thanks to Steam user "pandafresh", there is now a fix to prevent this. Download this little program called Swap Screen. See here:

http://dualmonitortool.sourceforge.net/swapscreen.html

This application will give you the ability to lock the mouse onto a single monitor, and therefore no more accidental clicks onto the other screen!

-----------------------------------------------------

- binkw32.dll is missing -

A couple of Steam users have mentioned trying to load Manhunt, and Windows sending you an error message saying "binkw32.dll is missing". I have no idea why this file would be missing, as it is necessary to run the game, and comes with the game. If you are experiencing this issue, please verify your game cache. You can do this by right clicking Manhunt in Steam, and then clicking on "Properties". Then on the window that opens up, click on the "Local Files" tab and then click the "Verify integrity of game cache" button. Let Steam check your Manhunt directory (will take a minute or two), and it should see that the binkw32.dll file missing and re-download it for you. If Steam for whatever reason does not reacquire this file, you can download the file here:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?binkw32

NOTE: MAKE SURE TO CLICK THE "DOWNLOAD ZIP-FILE" BUTTON AND NOTHING ELSE! The other buttons will try to make you download some crapware that you don't want or need. Extract this file, and put it at the root of the Manhunt directory, located at:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\manhunt" for a 64 bit OS
-OR-
"C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\manhunt" for a 32 bit OS.

-----------------------------------------------------

Thank You because I was thinking about buying Manhunt off of Steam. Most games I get on PC are better than PlayStation or Xbox. Now I know there is support for Windows 7

You're welcome. What version of Windows are you running out of curiosity?

Bro, is this a virus? Be honest.
VØ1D 16 Jun, 2013 @ 1:42pm
No, it's not a virus. I don't know what would make you think it is, look at above comments of people who have tried this and got their game working.

I just downloaded the game off of Steam and got the same problem with crashing after the first two kills outside the gate.

I'm a bit of a noob PC user, so question: How exactly do you overwrite one file over another that you've downloaded? Is the file that I need to overwrite also a .exe file in the Manhunt folder on my C drive?

Well Holy sh*t!

I did as you suggested, downloaded and renamed the .exe file for manhunt.... worked like a charm! No crash so far and I'm on the third level or so.

Thanks a lot man!

Yeah man, not a problem. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier.
Investigate311 17 Jun, 2013 @ 12:58am
Thanks for the fix! Mr. Frodo, take the .exe that works and find the original .exe in your common steamapps folder, then put the .exe you got here into the manhunt folder and it will ask you if you want to replace the old file (which you do).

NOW I'M PISSED!

It was working fine yesterday. But today after booting up my PC, suddenly Steam says it can't start the game because of a 'missing executable'. I think maybe my f*cking Norton antivirus removed the file as a percieved threat.

SUMBITCH!!!!

re-dl the file and place it back in the manhunt directory. Also, just me being an IT professional, I suggest remove Norton and use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, works wonders, and is very unobtrusive and uses little system resources.

The link works! kudos to OP.

Just spreading the word. =)

Note: Certain browsers(Chrome) may label the download as a potential virus. Honestly just use a different browser if Google Chrome has been giving you false negatives.

It says I'm missing something called binkw32.dll and I can therefore not install the patch. Help please!

Google binkw32.dll and you should find it for download. Place the file in the manhunt folder, or where some dll´s are present and try again.
