It also helps if you make at least one mistake so you can observe that if you try to view a Fragment too early, it cracks, and that you can still view it when the time is right. (The Fragment of Matsuribayashi cracks even though you technically view it at an appropriate time, but it's still "too early" in terms of the story.) I guess that's a drawback to using a guide instead of trying to figure it out yourself.
