There isn't a single named protagonist as such. You play as a gladiatorial team owner; characters address you directly and you make choices that affect both them and how certain events and side quests play out. You don't have an avatar to participate in battles with as yourself; your team members do the fighting at your command.

There is definitely a story that develops as you play, but it takes some time before you get personally involved in it (and that part of the game isn't complete just yet).

I'm not sure what others would say, but I'd say the focus here is primarily on battles and characters.

I see, what about say romance for the gladiatorial team owner then? Given how the game teases with relationship building it made me wonder about this.

Secondly, can the gladiatorial team owner/MC also become friends with his gladiators? Learn their stories and so on?

And finally...is there an option to use the gladiatorial team owner in a fight or its only using others to do the dirty work?

Hey CloudKira! There isn't self-insert friendship or romance or anything like that. Characters can be loyal to you, and your actions directly impact how happy they are, but it isn't like a traditional dating sim (or a modern Fire Emblem title) where you, the player, try to build a personal relationship with your subordinates. You get to learn your characters' stories by watching them interact with one another.

As the team owner, you don't currently have an avatar to participate directly in the fighting yourself (although I am considering adding that in at some point).
