Mining Speed and Meteorites
TLDR Mining speed chip is pointless, Meteorites and annoying. Change them to be more interactive

So doing my 3rd (4th) play through also doing a play through with a friend, i have come to be annoyed by the mining speed chip and meteorites specifically the fact that the mining speed chip at BEST saves you 1 second.

If you count when mining it takes about 3-4 seconds to mine something with a T4 chip it changes to about 2-3 seconds which is roughly its 40% sure.......but its pointless especially for the resources it cost around the time you unlock it.....Why not have it give a chance to also double to ore, or even have a separate chip entirely for it.

Regardless the mining chip is not the issue, its that fact you don't have something that takes longer to mine, this is where meteorites come in.

When meteorites drop, they explode dropping resources YAY but now all that debris is in the way and you cant get to it until it de-spawns on top of that you just pick the resources up you don't even mine them (makes the mining chip less useful)

Now you could just take the route where the debris de-spawns faster / it just doesn't have collision / less of it OR

You could make it that the centre of the meteorite can be mine, but it takes time, so consider this.
Basic meteorite rain happens you mine the "centre" of the meteorite and it gives say 5 random basic resources of the base 5 with a low chance of ALSO giving aluminium
(which is what it already drops so nothing changes)
Uranium and Iridium Meteorites can be changed the same you could even have it they have a low chance to give basic resources as well
Super alloy/Osmium i think would be fine with what they drop

As for the mining time it could be like say 7-10 seconds to mine the entire thing its a considerable amount of time......WHICH makes the mining chip have an actual use.
Cutting 10 seconds down to 6 is a decent time for a t4 chip, if 10 seems to long make it 8 or 7 the low tier chips will still feel like they are helping while keeping that t4 chip in a good place.
You could even have a slider at world creation to make it how fast it is the mine them, meaning the player can chose to make it better or worse, there is even space to add in a t5 chip for 50% cutting mining time in half.

Worse case you could even have a legacy option or just an option on world creation to turn this on or off.

IMO i think this would be a triple win.
1. Mining chip has an actual use
2. Meteorites are less annoying and more interactive
3. Less physics no more need for resources rolling around, just the debris

Cheers for reading GLHF

Past a certain point the only time I mine is to clean up around my base. I'd like to see a "wide" miner chips that lets me vacuum up multiple resources with one press of the button.

I've made the miner chips one time and haven't bothered with them since, preferring auto miners and drones.

Meteorites I mostly agree. I hate having to waste time waiting for the debris to disappear so I can clean the area. However, firing 20+ rockets sets off my OCD need to simply pick up everything. Having to mine a resource node to clean up around my base for each rocket would be awful. I'm talking when you send up 10-15 of each rocket at a time.

I never bother with more than 10 or so rockets tops - that kick-starts everything enough, and more just offers diminishing returns - and I have never needed them just for the materials, I always seem to have way more than I need, so no need to work for more. :steamhappy:

I really like the idea of mining the meteor core, except for super alloy (those mini-meteors that super alloy meteor swarms come in on don't leave much debris anyway). I think the base mining should be closer to a minute though, with the T4 taking it down to probably 20 seconds. If that seems long to you I would remind that a good iridium or uranium meteor can more than fill a T3 backpack (maybe even T4). 20 seconds to fill your backpack seems fine to me.

As for the cleanup issue others have posted here, I'd suggest with T2 rocket engines we be able to create mining drones that will literally scour the planet for loose minerals. Make them expensive it will be hard to create massive numbers of them, and have them move about T1 drone speed and also make them not do the normal drone work (i,e, these are spoecialty drones, no replacement for T2's). They would be dedicated to finding loose minerals and putting them in storage. That's probably asking for a lot, but I'd love to have a clean planet.
You could also make it that the meteorite core can de-spawn after an amount of time.Boop

I agree about the miner chip. It's useless by all accounts.
Improved chips do not increase the range of resource extraction. They do not allow you to extract many resources at once in wide area. Even the most improved chip only gives a tiny (within one second) bonus to manual resource extraction. And these most advanced chips are available at that stage of the game when no one is manually collecting resources anymore.
The most logical solution would be to rebalance the chips so that they at least allow you to collect a lot of resources in a cone (AoE effect). Then they would have at least some meaning. Otherwise, it's better to remove them from the game.
