I've made the miner chips one time and haven't bothered with them since, preferring auto miners and drones.
Meteorites I mostly agree. I hate having to waste time waiting for the debris to disappear so I can clean the area. However, firing 20+ rockets sets off my OCD need to simply pick up everything. Having to mine a resource node to clean up around my base for each rocket would be awful. I'm talking when you send up 10-15 of each rocket at a time.
I never bother with more than 10 or so rockets tops - that kick-starts everything enough, and more just offers diminishing returns - and I have never needed them just for the materials, I always seem to have way more than I need, so no need to work for more.
As for the cleanup issue others have posted here, I'd suggest with T2 rocket engines we be able to create mining drones that will literally scour the planet for loose minerals. Make them expensive it will be hard to create massive numbers of them, and have them move about T1 drone speed and also make them not do the normal drone work (i,e, these are spoecialty drones, no replacement for T2's). They would be dedicated to finding loose minerals and putting them in storage. That's probably asking for a lot, but I'd love to have a clean planet.
Improved chips do not increase the range of resource extraction. They do not allow you to extract many resources at once in wide area. Even the most improved chip only gives a tiny (within one second) bonus to manual resource extraction. And these most advanced chips are available at that stage of the game when no one is manually collecting resources anymore.
The most logical solution would be to rebalance the chips so that they at least allow you to collect a lot of resources in a cone (AoE effect). Then they would have at least some meaning. Otherwise, it's better to remove them from the game.
