Take a look at the following thread -
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/1284190/discussions/0/3806152724354705146/
The thread is written by primary moderator of this discussion board and details precisely where and how to find and install 'safe' mods for this game.
The thread also includes links to some video guides as well as additional useful info.
As for mods causing problems, the main issue people seem to encounter is mods breaking due to updates to the game, in those situations the choices are generally to either wait until your installed mods also update before continuing to play your existing modded save file, or you can disable/remove the installed mods and start a whole new separate mod-less save file to keep you going in the meantime, and then once your mods are updated you can reinstall them and switch back to your modded save file.
Yes I go also with 50, because every number greater then 50 can break the safe/game. So I have no interest in this to happen.
They don't break saves, but they do kill the fun of the game. This game is about resource management, and mods eliminate the need for resource management.
Now I'm playing the game without mods once again. The main thing is not to be greedy. Not to grab everything, not to mine more than necessary.
The only exception is that it is better to fill up your storages before leaving one planet and moving on to the next. In order to bring in missing resources via shuttles at the initial stage of colonization. But drones and T2 cabinets help here.
Safety tip. Don't post to discussions while standing in the middle of a plain before breatheable atmosphere.
In one of my higher level playthroughs, I have a bunch of ore extractors mining basic ores. This was before drones, so I had a waste pile as I primarily wanted iron and titanium.
I built a living compartment in an out of the way spot,...and filled it with loose ore. Eventuially I wound up burying it in ores
