It's showing the framework for having mission to mission progress among other things, so now users can create campaigns on their own. And is also step towards dynamic campaign system.

The Linear Campaign is designed to (1) prove out some concepts needed for Dynamic Campaign (such as event formatting), and (2) allow for a framework for mission makers to create more story-driven campaigns with events in between. I'm sure the Workshop community will soon be updating most of the bigger campaigns with this new format :) Cheers

Is this a Pacific Strike update I hear?
That's what any campaign is; a list of scenarios. The difference is the scenarios tie-in to each other to paint a hypothetical story of the world.

If you don't want to play the campaign, then by all means download one-off scenarios from the workshop.
