AShMs can't fly over land without hitting the land
Hello all, putting this here for the devs to see (or maybe to see if there's something I'm missing lol), not sure if there's a more official way to report this but hopefully it helps

Firing AShMs at targets with an island or something between the firer and the target is a frustrating crapshoot of whether the missiles will get to their target or hit ground before they get there. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. This is just a little kink in the missile AI I'm sure, their height seems to be measured from sea level and doesn't take land into consideration. Not a major issue for an early access game, but something that needs fixed before the full game releases.

Not a bug ASMs that are sea skimming do not have the ability to navigate over terrain.

Is that a thing irl? Seems like navies would give their missiles that capability

Yes, that is a real thing in the time period. Some weapons like the TLAM (Tomahawk Land Attack Missile) has a terrain following system to be able to fly low and hug ground. The other ASMs just had a height set capability to be over the water.

Well, that's interesting. Somewhat annoying but cool for the simulation aspect. Thank you for letting me know!

I tried splicing in the terrain following code line from the land attack missiles, but no dice. It just flew straight until impact.
I've watched some Harpoons in a salvo avoid terrain and others crash into the ground, so this behavior is at least inconsistent.
