Sea Power

Sea Power

Time has come for AI and spawning mechanics
The latest upgrade is giant. Finally, we have save/load, so multiday missions are possible. Now it's time for the next milestone, after which I'm ready to play my long-thought missions.

1) Advanced spawning mechanics. One of the main questions at sea is "where the heck is the enemy, at least in general?" But if you place the units yourself, you remember their location, so it's not interesting to find one. I hope the devs will introduce some system that randomizes enemy location. For example, you could paint a location in which the formation may spawn. Maybe also add some uncertainty about formation, like some units are just there, and some are added or not added by chance. This also must be coupled with less precise passive detection - if you hear a noise or detect a radar, you must see it as a vector, like in Command: Modern Operations, unless other factors are at play.

Advanced tracking features like noise context that interferes with detection or target track overlap (which can cause one ship to be mistaken for another and vice versa) are also necessary, but that’s another topic.

2) AI. Sea Power is a single-player game, so computer ships can't be just passive bots from the early versions of Counter-Strike. First of all, AI has to become just functional - now there is no AI for, say, a submarine's underwater missile launch.

But then it should become smart and actually mimic thought processes. Collecting intel, figuring out where the enemy might be based on the hints, assessing enemy's force, choosing approach based on it. Perform reasonable attacks (not rushing planes to kamikaze runs against SAM), deploying precautions (like not rushing at full speed to enemy w/o checking for submarines), timing simultaneous attack with different weapons (planes, subs, and missiles from multiple ships) etc etc.

With it, Sea Power would become an ultimate naval simulator that draws you for weeks out and forces to ask for a leave on a job.

This is my message that was previously placed in the wrong subforum. I don't know how to move them, so I created the new topic for the record.
