Options after dying
I just started the game and I find the options after dying confusing (I'm not new to the DQ games, played them all except X).

Continuing from your last location visited makes you lose 1/2 money and teleports you to the last visited location.

Continuing from your last save makes you lose 1/2 money.

Continuing from your autosave makes you lose progress AND money AND items from the chests on the world map (WTF?)

So basically pick your poison? BUT if you Alt-F4 quit the game and start from your last manual save as you normally would you don't lose anything (except the progress you made between the save and death). What the heck???? Why can't you just load your last save normally without stupid penalty or having to restart the game? Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Then, prepare properly and don't die? Idk, i've almost never died at all ever since day one on PS4.

I wasn't aware of the options as I've never even came close to dying. DQ while fun, it's far too easy.

But I did know that in all DQ's you take a gold hit by dying. Which is exactly why the banks are a thing. You put all your gold you don't need in a bank so you don't risk losing it.

This is much less of an issue on a full or anything including the game over if protagonist dies draconian run. It just boots you to the main menu if he falls. The money draining is supposed to get you to use the bank more which is not a bad idea if you're dying a lot. :2016bee:

I turned on hard enemies in Draconian options from the beginning, had my herbs in the bag only, and got massacred while solo by Bunicorns. On the other hand I wanted to see what happens when you die. I found the last autosave to be least punishing (as the game always autosaves after loading the manual save) but for some reason it made me lose items from the chests on the world map, and the chests remained open. Is this a glitch?

I guess I will turn hero dies all die on as well because I prefer to be booted to the main menu than to choose from penalty or risk losing the items.... Or manually restarting the game for that matter....

Yeah, I'd recommend it if the gold loss is not to your liking. Even on an otherwise normal run. Me being a psychopath went full Draconian. It's super fun though. :2016bee:
