Loved this game, anything similar you could rec?
Loved this, loved FFX, loved lost odyssey. Anyone have good TURN BASED rpg games you could recommend that have a similar 'grand adventure' vibe? Bonus points if its something within the last 15 years :) (I've played pretty much all the old/classic ones)

Octopath Traveler, especially the 2nd one
Seconding Octopath Traveller II, and Metaphor is also great.
Super excited for the upcoming Trails remake

I'm going to have to give it another try, I remember being hyped for the game but barely playing it before moving on. I'm not sure why though. I'll give it another go though because I do see it often suggested
I've been replaying DQ XI rn and so happy to be playing it again along with some others recently. Granted, some of these are older, but you can look at the Lunar 1&2 remaster recently released, Grandia, but maybe not Grandia 2 because it has major crashing issues in the late game. Trails is an absolute turn base staple if you're not already familiar with the series too.

There's also the Persona series if you don't mind about 70% being more story oriented, or SMT V if you want turn base Megaten with a greater combat focus. If you can handle, or are willing to learn, Clair Obscur is turn base, however, be aware there's a real time dodging and parrying element that requires learning timing. To be perfectly honest, I get a little Lost Odyssey vibe from it, and I've 100%d it and beat Lost Odyssey back in the day.

Hope it gives some idea.

Never played any of the trails games, I see there are quite a lot of them though. Which would you suggest as the best one to play or to start with?

Wait for the remake of Trail in the sky. Likely that the Sky and Crossbell games will be remade.

It's alright, these games battle system is similar to the Grandia series rather than to DQXI tough. In that you can cancel attacks from monsters and such.

Honestly it's your call and depends how much time you feel like waiting. Yes, Sky 1 remake is this year, but nobody knows when 2&3 are coming nor is there any confirmation the Crossbell duology will be remade. The order though is: Sky trilogy > Crosbell duology of Zero and Azure > Cold Steel 1-4 > Reverie > Daybreak > Beyond Zemuria which is also supposed to release this year. As it stands now, this series would take around 1,000 hours just to get on the current game.

One other series I forgot to mention is Baten Kaitos 1&2 remaster. These are hidden gems not many have played. If you're familiar with the Xeno series from Monolith, those are the devs. They have a turn based card system supported by a traditional jrpg story and setup with some pretty good plot twists. You're eased into the card system, which plays out like a traditional battle system, that eventually requires some quick thinking as the cards come faster and you're trying to manipulate the order to give yourself dps or defense bonuses. I wholeheartedly recommend at least checking the store page out and to give it a chance even if you're initially turned off by the card battler because it doesn't play the way most people might think at a casual glance.

for grand adventure definetly metaphor, my favourite jrpg series is Shin Megami Tensei but it doesnt have that grand adventure feeling.
