Is my save data gone forever?
I originally played this game on xbox game pass a few years ago. I looked into transferring my save data to the steam version and discovered you needed to go into a folder to mess around with the files, but it is possible. I ended up looking for the folder only to discover that I didn't have it, I assume this is because my subscription to game pass ended a long time ago and at some point the folder was removed from my hard drive.

So the only way to get my save data back as far as I know would be to re-sub to game pass and download the game again restoring my save data, correct? That isn't possible for me right now. I was just wondering if there is some other way to get access to the save data because it should still be on microsofts servers no?

I have the very same issue. Dropped the game and gamepass sub a few years ago when I reached the point where we could travel on the high seas. However I wanted to finish this game and had the same thoughts.

However, the game is long gone from gamepass. So it needs to be purchased, but a refund might be possible after downloading and starting the game once to download the saves. Thes saves are under %localappdata% and the folder name should start with 39 I think.

I didn't use google, but the xbox saves might be not compatible with Steam saves. they might require hex editing tho.

Edit: I just took a look at the store and when I click on buy on the Xbox Store it clearly says no refunds... :(
