[Spoilers] The Jade Chapter
Hey guys,

Overall I was enjoying this game, despite how easy it is, even compared to former Dragon Quest Titles. It has a simple but effective story, charming visuals, a nice customizable leveling system (which has a respec option, huge plus!), and Draconian Quest for the most hardcore of players.

My only complaints however, were Act 3 and the Jade chapter. Chapter 3 undid some things what chapter 1 and 2 built up to do, like Veronic's Death

Act 3 was not the worst thing ever in my eyes, even when it's not as impactful and more idealistic of an ending. It pales in comparison to what I'm going to talk about next.

As everyone knows, after act 1 we get character-focused side chapters. Eric was stuck in a dungeon and must fight his way out, Rab has to overcome his desires to simpler times, and Sylvando tries to bring smiles and hopes back into the world (and yes, the result is silly and queer coded, but not problematic at all). That leaves one chapter. And I think it's quite problematic and not talked about nearly as much people should have.

Jade's chapter is literally going from becoming a strong and confident girl, to her arc being straight up about being a damsel in distress. Not just a damsel in distress, she gets forced to wear a bunny costume against her own will, gets sexualized by a literal monster and he wants her to be a sex slave (yes, that's his master plan with her), and eventually we get sex appeal as an ability. In other words, the enitre chapter was just an excuse make her have sex appeal as an ability. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't get how this is not generally seen as problematic, especially since this game's minimum age requirement is their teen years. A time period where children are learning about sexuality and how to handle it safely.

Like I said, generally, I love this game. I get that some games have sex scenes or (semi)nudity in them. But don't force a fictional or otherwise lady/woman into a sexualized position just to be able to have sex appeal as an ability, especially in a game with a minimum puberty age rating.

sadly thats a common thing with dragon quest games, there always have to be a woman who uses sex appeal

I honestly thought it would be best for sylvando to be the only one with sex appeal skills

even serena would make sense cause she is the beautiful girl and innocent, so it would be kinda funny to see her try sex appeal skills and getting embarassed or failling constantly like the twack ability xd

but yeah jade doesnt really make sense
Act 3 can be seen as a separate universe and I don't trust the dialog about the previous reality to "vanish" .

Jade was raised on her late childhood to adulthood by a pervert old king so it makes perfect sense that she learned from his bad habits and her abilities reflect this very fact as she uses the charm stat for these specific attacks. Also that scene with Booga helped put that overconfidence into check because she thought that she could prevail alone and became reckless.

I'm glad that she got sexualized because that's the reason why Japanese games stay relevant in the sea of bland sanitized western games. I do hope that they continue the tradition. Serena is more on the cute side in this game.
Well, I didn't expect a few comments anymore. Strangely enough, I don't mind sexualization for comedic purposes rather than tragic ones. As Tsune said, imagine how hilarious it would have been for Sylvando to expand on it or Serena unlocked it with 10 percent chance of shy pox. It would be her most overpowered ability but a side effect is lurking.

As for LordKaiser, I know she was raised by a pervy king but I think keeping her confidence in check could've been handled differently. This is some serious stuff especially for children and people having a trauma of a similar real life situation. It's just too bad she just embraces her new powers afterwards as if she owned it. I don't see her like this. She could have just as well have a training arc as much as Rab would've had. Expand on her spear for example and introduce attacks for massive damage at the cost of some MP.

And I don't think sexualization should be the sole reason why Anime is still relevant. I mean, most popular shonen Anime have some real pervy moments and nowadays the market is filled with loser guy/big boob women relationship story arcs. The most important thing is the story for me and if that revolves around a pervy Manga creator/Anime creator's perviness I bail. I've seen enough Anime with good stories that don't need a perv to succeed (Gundam, Princess Kaguya and Grave of the Fireflies come to mind. Maybe One Punch Man Season 1 has perviness in it, but it's not a central character's focus. I don't know about Seasons 2 & 3). It is possible, but the market often times wants "fan service" in it.

This game is rated T in America so it's for teenagers, not for children at all and they can handle themes like this.

As for people with trauma, that's a problem specific to someone and I'm not in favor of having sanitized story elements because it traumatizes people that suffered a specific trauma. In fact I see that game developers today are afraid to explore certain themes for fear of getting cancelled. Things that used to exist during the 90s and early 2ks.
