I deliberately made the miter blocks incapable of being clamped, mostly due to background mechanics of how the assemblies work. It was easier just to not allow it, but yeah, not a great excuse from a user experience perspective.
However, you can directly clamp a board to the workbench, so it would be theoretically possible to clamp a guide stop at the location you want using that method, in conjunction with using the existing table vise clamping the miter block.
But I generally agree with your sentiment that the game could use a whole slew of improvement on techniques for building, as right now everything is very basic and requires a lot of ingenuity to do some rather simple real world woodworking maneuvers.
Colored chalk would be fun :)
As always, great to hear your feedback and I will see what I can do to improve your time in game.
Also I can't get the tape measure to work at all, nor do I see anything about it on the clipboard.
Personally, I like to use two miter blocks at once - one in each table vise.
1. You can relocate the table vises to be next to each other. Grab onto a table vise handle, then press and hold -interact-. You will see the available locations where you can move the vises. Move them next to each other.
2. Place a miter block in each table vise. Now you have a nice level extended surface for cutting.
3. Lay a board across both miter blocks and cut to length.
As mentioned previously, you can also attach a variety of different configurations of stops to the workbench using the hand clamps to use in conjunction with the table vise/miter blocks. Some of the challenge levels have limited resources, so this isn't always possible there. The width of the miter block "platform" is the same as a 1x lumber, so a simple piece of lumber laid across the workbench can also help provide support while cutting in the miter block.
As far as the tape measure, hold the body of it in one hand, and with the other hand -grab- the tape end and pull it out. While the tape measure tape is extended, if you press -interact- it will lock the tape in place. Press -interact- again to release the tape.
Apologies for the lack of training resources. In the next update, I will be including some training videos for a variety of the tools inside the game.
Hope this helps.
