A few things that come to mind:
- Not everything can be clamped. Only the construction materials can be clamped like lumber, plywood, glass, food.
- Ensure that the clamp jaws are square to the surfaces that you are trying to clamp.
- It is best to keep the clamp jaw that is connected to the squeezable clamp handle as stationary as possible and let the jaw that is on the slider track move. The other way around doesn't work well with the physics fighting your hand position.
If it's not one of these things, please let me know more info because something unexpected may be happening!
