Default Ship Names
What does the number represent in the names of the ships that are created automatically during the game? For example, I have an Asteroid Miner M29. However, most of the current military ships have an M41 designation, though I also have a F-105 Star Eagle M30.

I believe it stands for Mark, as in F105 Star Eagle Mark 30. As you improve your technology, the game provides updated and upgraded versions of its fundamental ship designs.

M is indeed for Mark. The game redesigns the presets every few turns so it quickly increases the variation of a particular model.
