Review was for the original base game version sold on Epic exclusively. GC4 Supernova is both the base game and an expansion in one that added many new features plus player suggested ideas for game features and game play mechanics that sets this apart from the original GC4 base game.
The review article reads like hit piece of revenge from the IGN reviewer who appears to have a dislike for Stardock and the CEO of Stardock.
Current reviews have been mostly on the positive side. Many are leaving comments on the forums how much they're enjoying the game.
I myself personally ignore hit piece reviews which appear to be written as a means of getting revenge in my opinion.
+1
I love the game and the hard work the devs put into it! =))))))))))))
In my opinion, I prefer to test myself. No matter if it's a game or a product or whatever.
Opinions are always subjective.
I've also gotten out of the habit of reading newspapers about technology or games. That is total nonsense!
Either you test yourself and feel purely there, or you just leave it.
It's as simple as that.
Not trying to be rude - but how? I mean if it's different, perhaps encourage IGN to give it another review now that it's at 1.0. That's all. I just can't tell the difference between the store page and the review I suppose.
If there was a demo, I'd love to give it a go.
IGN ?
Been playin e-games of all sorts since 1994...
Never red IGN reviews.
The most positive aspect of a game ?
This:
Devs are actually involved in dialogue and do their best to improve their game.
Plus:
YES GC4-Supernove is imho mind-blowing !
I paid full price after I've seen an YT video and was convinced that this game is TOP, and couldn't wait for sales.
And for the past +/- 3 weeks I have a truly great time playing :
Galactic Civilizations 4 - Supernova !
GET this Game !
Exactly.
There is no effort to avoid or not address this - on the contrary, we really want people to see how the game has evolved. If an itemized list and version comparison would help, please see:

Happy to have your feedback, Roan Woasbi, and will answer any remaining questions you have.

It was moved to off topic because the article you referenced was in fact about the GC4 base game on EPIC and had nothing to do with GC4 Supernova on Steam.
Remember when games would have a standalone expansion that could run on its own without needing the base game? That's what Supernova more or less is. It just uses core GCIV cause it uses mutual assets(gfx, music) and coding cause they're closeby chronologically released. There are enough choices there to marketing it as a new game if they wanted. They wanted to give the GCIV group that have chosen it a chance for an even better experience with this.
Plus the exclusivity lasted for an entire year they wanted to present a new product for Steam and other shops users. How many games have done this? When it was upgraded existing users got an upgrade offer for just about 15 bucks. For comparison, Gear Tactics which was compared to XCOM 1-2 and couldn't hold a candle to either(I know from personal experience) was originally priced at 79 U$D. In hindsight maybe it should have been priced like it and drop weekly, priced, DLC's. Maybe then people wouldn't complain about trivial details and wouldn't be discouraged; "hey it costs a small fortune to get, it MUST be good!!!"
