Bug - Event research boost cancels Tech Breakthrough
(v2.95) If I am research a breakthrough tech, it actually becomes slower (takes more turns) when I receive a tech boost via recovering research caches with Flag Ships.

Hiya! That's only a visual effect on the UI bar, the research will still complete according to the breakthrough bonus.

Here's an explanation of what is happening: "The interaction between the Research UI bar and your actual research output combined with the overflow research output compared to the cost of the current research is a bit wacky at times. What I've noticed is that anytime you have the game adding stuff to the overflow research, then the research time prediction becomes inaccurate.

When you start a new research the Bar will give you a prediction based on your research output without considering research overflow. Next turn, if the research didn't complete in one turn (thanks to your research overflow), then you'll get a new prediction based on how much research you used in the previous turns, including your overflow. Then if you don't finish the research on the second turn, without any overflow left (since it was all used on the first turn), the UI bar will finally give you a more accurate time based on your basic per turn research output.

At any point during that process, if you add stuff in the overflow, it'll mess up the UI a little until the next turn."

It doesn't appear to be a visual effect only, and very noticeable on techs that takes a lot of turns and definitely not due to overflow.

E.g.
Gigamass Harvesting, let's say its 40 turns usually, 20 turns on breakthrough.
After I get a research event or use a research exec order, the breakthrough bonus is canceled. Number of turns is multiplied by 2 and stays that way. (i.e. went back to what it would be without breakthrough bonus)

40 -> 20 (breakthrough) -> 19 (1 turn) -> 38 (after using research order or event)

And after the event, if you wait 2 turns, does it goes back down to 17 turns ? And by breakthrough you're meaning one of the 3 discounted research ?

If not then could you share a save file show casing this issue ? it would be quite helpful. Best place to do that is through the GC4 discord server. Just drag and drop your save file in (Live) v2.96 Sitrep under supernova-feedback-and-sitreps.

It doesn't go back to the discounted turn count after taking turns. And yes, by breakthrough I mean that 50% research discount bonus.

This happens every game I play as far as I can tell, just more noticeable on the expensive techs. I uploaded a save on the Torian influence issue, but this issue should be locatable in that save as well.

I play with the -90% research bonus, so it is really noticeable.

Think I figured out the problem.
I traded techs with AI in the same turn so the research requirements for the tech was increased significantly.

Kind of shocking to see a tech that is to be completed in 1 turn, suddenly gets bumped to completion in 10 turns.

Ah that makes sense. Yeah there is a increased research cost for each tech. 1 to 10 might be a little extreme though. If you have a save that would help for the development team.

The techs in question were the ones for megastructures.
