I have been waiting for this type of game so im glad to support it. I would recommend you Devs check out the graphics for a steam game called z-collapse. I think a graphics style along these lines would be very helpful to the game.

For XK events or even just containment breachs maybe have a number of popuation killed
over a time duration before recontainment. Have a number of required teams to stop an event or recontain a site. Until it is met kill count grows and public awareness grows. This can be countered with amnestics research and use.
