Is arcane considered elemental ? like having an enemy glowing pink won't get him more dmg from another elemental attack I suppose ?

When unique upgrade says "deals lightning dmg", does that replace the former dmg type ? as an example, former physical of the floor spike becomes entirely lightning ?
