graphics wont load, all washed out
when i launch into the game, the graphics look all over-exposed and washed out. I have tried -dx11 and unfortunately it was the same result. I also tried the trick with deleting the video settings sav file.

Hello druth, Have you tried resetting the graphics settings? When you start the game for the first time, the game runs a test to adjust the graphics settings. It may happen that this does not work properly. (If you have deleted this file, it will run this test again).

Try a reset in the graphics settings and adjust Manuel your graphics, make sure your resolution is correct.

Could you take a screenshot if necessary?

They don't have to switch to -DX11. Previously, the game ran on DX12, but many could not play with DX12. With that in mind, I switched it back to DX11.

I tried resetting the graphics setting as you suggested. Everything appeared over-exposed. I tried to manually adjust it. At the lowest brightness settings, there is a little contrast, but not enough to play the game. It's very bright, very over-exposed, and this is true both with dx12 and dx11. I took a screen shot but am not sure how to post it here. When the resolution is at max or at minimum, the result appears to be the same.

Okay, that's very strange. Did you take the screenshot using the Steam Launcher with the F12 key? If so, then you just need to post the image in Steam Launcher and link it here.

If I understand it correctly, the image seems very brightened, whether you would turn up the brightness fully?

Does it look anything like this? https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/831834384343629844/1047648509773488209/Screenshot_2350.jpg?width=1020&height=574

Yes, that's exactly what it looks like! When it first loads, for a few seconds before the screen responds to mouse movements and before the character drops in, everything looks good. The screen starts looking like this at the moment I see the character drop in. It also happens in the first person mode.

Ok, the problem is hard to narrow down. I've only had a problem like this with one user, and now with you.

What kind of graphics card bsp. hardware are you using to play?

Please check if your graphics driver is up to date.

I'll check the game again to see if I can find a problem along those lines shortly.

I am really sorry that you are having this problem at the moment.

Also, please make sure you don't exceed the 2 hours so you can return the game if necessary.

it's nothing fancy, just an HP laptop, with the built in graphics card. It's good enough that games like The Infected and Generation Zero give me no problem, so I didn't think it would be a limiting factor here. Fingers crossed!

Same appearance when I start up Tropical Island. But I noticed that in the Tropical Island DLC, where you spawn further from tall trees, looking straight up from first person view, the sky is very nice and blue and the clouds going by look great. The washed-out/over-exposed look seems not to effect the sky. Objects have a glow around them, in addition to being too bright/washed out. Is this maybe some sort of filter effect gone wrong?

The other user with this problem also had a laptop. I think he had an Intel graphics card.

The problem is very strange. I tried to reproduce it with a laptop and was able to trigger the problem. The laptop also has an Intel HD graphics card installed.

It seems that this Intel HD graphics is the main problem.

Ah, so could this be one of those things where like the device is expecting full range RGB and is getting limited range, or something like that?

I am still looking for the trigger for this problem.

I'll write to them as soon as I know more.

That fixed it! So excited to try it out! Thanks so much for all your help.

One other thing I noticed. I unlocked the hunting achievement without doing anything. And also swimming. Not sure how, because I couldn't see anything before I wasn't moving around much either. Not a big deal, but thought I'd pass it on.

Thanks again!

Glad to hear it worked for you.

With the achievements I will have a look.

I'm preparing the upcoming update #67 if she wants to take a look as well: https://steamhost.cn/news/app/1524630/view/3628242853598429091
