Distant Worlds 2

Distant Worlds 2

DW2 not considered 4X genre?
*-Not a complaint, already own all DLC, and would buy full price to support devs regardless of waiting for sale. Just curious.

Noticed Steam just started 4x Fest sale today, and all the usual titles are listed - Stellaris, X4 Foundations, etc. But DW2 is not.

That got me thinking. Why is DW2 not considered by Steam as 4x? It can't be because it is more RTSS than turn based, because X4 Foundations isn't turned based either. It has same start/pause real time play mode.

Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate = 4X

Seems DW2 fits every X quite literally.

It is a 4X. From what I know, participation in steam sales is always decided by individual
publishers. So, it's a question to Slitherine.

I see DW2 listed in Steam in the 4x list. But it is not shown very prominent to me. Instead DWU is presented to me with it's trailer :steamhappy: Probably because I don't own DWU on Steam.
But both are not price reduced.

X4: Foundations isn't a 4X. It has some 4X aspects and you could treat it somewhat like a 4X, but it really doesn't fit.

Some grand strategy games are listed, too, like Hearts of Iron and some Total War games.

How come the game doesn't have a steam workshop?

It's just that the devs opted out of this sale.

Look over a few tabs and you'll see the Workshop tab. Try opening your eyes before your mouth.
Shame there's no sale when it sits at mostly positive, not really ready to gamble NZD$71.49 - USD$42.59.

Eh, stick it on your wish list. It will be on sale in November.

Already on wishlist, but thank you for the mention. Something special about November or just a good chance it might be on sale Christmas etc?

If you wanna grab it I got it yesterday on CDkeys for $1. Literally have no clue why it's so cheap there but it is. I always check there before I grab something.

Please don't use reseller keys for this game as the profits are slim already being a niche type game. This is coming from someone who does use reseller keys for overpriced AAA stuff. But these guys deserve as much profit as they can get.

X4 Foundation is not a 4X. But Distant Worlds yes, at 100%

+1

That is another reason why I purchased directly from the Matrix Games site. Also, it is why I don't have an issue with the DLC purchases.

This game deserves a much larger player base.

Yep I've paid full price for the game and dlc from the matrix store so the devs get the max amount of money. This game is worth it.
