Gold Dragon's gimmick is that it begins with Truestrike 6, so he spams your team in the first 2 turns. Two of the attacks in the first two turns will be stuns, the other will be an AoE nuke. You need to have a team who can begin recovering very quickly, meaning you need to place healers in the back to avoid getting stunned and make sure that they can protect your team for the 2nd turn. Stuff like Pinto is very valuable here.
In general, Gold Dragon is the most "stat-check" heavy of the second-to-last bosses. Did you bring healing? Do you have enough up-front defenses? Can you recover in the first turn (usually with Orange 3)? Then you usually can beat Gold Dragon.
Without Illusion, it's really heavy RNG: there doesn't seem to be a limit on how often he can use his breath attack and healing can't keep up with its damage, so you don't have a chance if he uses it 3-4 times in a row.
Edit: I didn't make it with "Illussion" either. Heal + Illusion does not work. Due to the fact that the "Golden Dragon" attacks several times, 1x Illusion brings nothing at all. I have already unlocked 47/80 and I can't do the "Golden Dragon"... Will there be anything after that, or is that the end?
If someone had told me that you can sell the units and if they were > silver that the symbols/bonuses are kept, then everything would have been much easier. :-D
Seriously? I'm usually pretty observant when it comes to things like this. :-O Then it was probably not so much in focus when that was described.

It's not a bug, he attacks 3 times per turn, heavy can trigger every 2 attacks, he also starts with true strike 6, so he will do 2 turns with 3 specials each, better bring some mitigation, or its bye bye.
It's annoying to just die from RNG failure with illusion heh...
I had an amazing run and in before last boss - Golden Dragon,
Nuked my team and i lost, nice.
