I had lots of freeze and heals and shielding and I still lost at the last minute to them. It is particularly frustrating when you have multiple Gold Tier units (who are freeze specialists).
You shouldn't be having a team of gold units unless you have nearly maxed out your symbols. I'm assuming your team are all basic gold units (not T2/silver'd/upgraded). All units have roughly the same HP. That means upgraded silver/bronze are more important on the first 10 floors than gold units because they'll have roughly 100+ more HP (and enhanced skills).
Upgraded silver/bronze are going to last longer than unenhanced gold. The sharks are even more so a test of your endurance. Don't worry about gold units until after the 2nd boss, where the rates for gold jump up dramatically. One or two of your six units being gold is fine, but the rest absolutely should be upgraded silver.
