Regarding the second character's roster
So, I have played this game for 70 hours since the day the game got released (surpass my Gunfire Reborn play hours considering it was released 1 year ago).

After trying both characters, I feel like Zoela have limited options regarding teammates option compared to Amelia.

Every single run with Zoela for me is just pick out the Oni as a tank, the frog as a DPS, 2 healers and the last slot maybe another DPS or a support.

And I kid you not, Oni and Frog is almost mandatory for every of my run because of how strong they are, the others characters are just symbol fodders to boost them more. The rank 3 Oni with double attacks plus the White Symbol doesn't even need a healer, he heal more than the gems could even offer.

Oh and about the Frog, I thought he was just the Zoela's version of the Black Samurai, but he deal way more damage than him with skill or with normal attacks. The last run I had he use his skill and deal 1k damage in a single hit.

For the symbols: Green, Red, Fist and Orange are the only thing I found good on Zoela, the rest are just add ons, especially with the Thief symbol. Death Symbol critical rate are so miniscule I would feel cheated.

Is there anybody out there feels the same way about Zoela? I like her playstyle more than Amelia but this is just sad.

Mmmmm, dunno. I had finished maze 2 with her and I ended with two totally differents teams. My playstyle is:
1 - First half grab all sinergies you can.
2 - After that i grab 1-2 healer 1-2 dps and 1-2 tanks. No bronze units allowed and aim for gold ones.

Maybe just luck but getting level 2 gold units seems easier with her.

then maybe it's your luck then. I only have 1-2 times get upgraded gold unit with her but all of those time the gold unit is the opposite of my team build (got a physical character when having a magic build and vice versa)

I have to say that I tried out Oni and Frog, and they weren't doing it for me. Too little damage compared to other units. I'm not sure how you are running them, but even a gold unit that doesn't fit my build feels better than them.

Yeah my build make the Frog does tons of damage, and the Oni is a tank so damage is not aim towards him of course, can't expect a tank to deal good damage. The frog on the other hand can one shot anything thing beside a boss with everytime he use his skill for my build.

Oni is a decent early game tank, but you can tank with almost any healer early on, or get blue online and you don't need a tank at all for the first half of the dungeon. In the later floors, death is a much better tank than Oni. Death with orange and green symbols active means you have a dude with 500+ hp that revives endlessly sitting in front. And he also deals pretty insane damage, so you're not wasting a slot on just tanking.

As for OP symbols, beast is probably the strongest DPS symbol in the game. Stack two orange and two beast and you get a backline quad active bombardment to start every fight. You can easily one-shot the witch with this setup.

For the Oni build, I build him with the fact that he need no healing so the other healer can target someone else instead of the frontline.
For the build you mention, I did tried it once but only then get Death as the boss and he destroy my team, which maybe due to my horrible luck and have to refresh the shop too many time to get the beast characters.

I find getting through the early game much harder than getting through the end with Zoela. Her gold tier units are so good, and it costs so much to buy her party slots.

yeah that's a given. Usually I don't buy the last slot until at least stage 10, since her team can deal with bosses with 4 members pretty easily.

I haven't tried the oni (I'm assuming you mean the ogre, since that's how they translated oni) as my tank since his defense stat was so low.

I actually like running burn with Zeola (Flame Emperor, Dragon) but I prefer Black Ghost Knight as my tank (does more damage than Gold Return Frog if he's silver'd, since he doesn't stun himself) and Gunse Mushroom (heals are nice but the gem reduction is extra nice).
I actually feel like there are more build options with Zeola because of how diverse of abilities her units have while being decent units in themselves. Although, Death seems really lackluster...

As for symbols; Zeola has a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ symbols (thief is underwhelming, let's be real). But Hermit and Plant are amazing (spell leech is more interesting than it seems, since more of Zeola's units do magic damage than physical). And Brightblade is more overpowered than I think people realize; those debuffs include stuff like freeze and moonlight. So at 4 debuffs and level 2 fairy, you're pulling 148% more damage just by itself. That's how I killed the witch in 1 turn.

And I agree with Cox, the beginning half of the game is way harder with Zeola than with Amelie. I feel like once you get to the 2nd boss and have a decent build, it's pretty easy from there.

Spell leach will also heal you when enemies deal magic damage to you but the amount is so miniscule to devote on it if the enemies keep spamming magic and don't let it stacks. Brightblade is good but only if your team is a debuff team and does not work for a physical team.

And for the Oni, indeed the defense stat is low but he compensate it with a 60 heal every turn (120 with the double attacks buff and additional 50 with White Symbol so he's more tanky than you thought late game).

And about the magic aspect, I swear to god early game with a magic team is almost impossible to pull of if you meet bosses like the Tree or the Stone Turtle, they just decimate the whole team with one skill since the HP for magic units are low.

But tbh, I would prefer if more characters are added in or buffs for some symbols. Bruh even the Ghost symbol does not even work with itself since it just 1 stack and it's gone when the team attack so the symbol itself only works with Ghost type team since they can give themselves Candy buff so the heal will work.

I've also been running a burn team with Flame Emperor and Dragon. It seems very strong.

As far as the Candy buff goes. At worst you are getting a 50% damage buff every turn. I tend to use the Maid Ghost as my healer, and the level 2 Candy makes her better. I like to put her in the back in the Combo spot. She makes for a great healer this way.

I didn't realize that enemy magic healed you too. It isn't that low tho; Amelie's healing symbol gives you 8/20 heal and spell leech gives you 6/15. But while healing stays at 8/20 the entire fight, spell leech stacks up to 12/30, which is 50% higher than Amelie's. Also, the value halves at the end of turn, not when attacked, so the enemy's can't force it lower.

Brightblade: AFAIK, everyone is constantly running freeze and either/both shock and burn. There's also no reason to not have moonlight if you can get it. I don't see why you wouldn't be running at least 2 debuffs, which is an easy additional 74% damage.

You make a good point about the Oni tho, he does have a lot of self-heal ability.

Yeah though, I like the ghost symbol but it's only good with one or two ghosts on your team (although Portly Ghost is a solid unit and I also use the Maid Ghost whenever I get candy symbols running). And Zeola's units are fairly weak in the early game which makes it rough, you're more reliant on good spell rolls.

I just solo'd the last boss second form on WM5 with a silver rank Death, so yeah it's a pretty good tank ;)

(a disrupt came at a bad time and she one shot the rest of my party, death just solo'd the entire fight with double action necklace)

About the healing of spell leach, all the stacks will be gone if the enemies hit you and will heal according to the amount of stacks. If you have 15 per turn but the enemies keep using magic you will keep losing all the stacks so you can't stack it indefinitely if you rely on enemies hitting you.

I don't know how the stacks will heal if it was from ally cuz I never got to build a good magic team up to that point since I always die at the first boss whenever I tried building a magic team early game.
