You don't really need a specific comp, you just need good mana management especially midgame when you're likely to have the most trouble. Sometimes that means taking massive floor damage to save mana gems (and therefore crystals) if you're holding health potions, and giving up on oddly placed dead end rooms that aren't likely worth the trouble. Fountains also help a lot if you can spare some carats, 20 carats for 10 mana is a good deal in drops of mana. Once you can roll a rank 3 mana gem from alchemist it's really not much more difficult than a normal WD1 run. The last time I won I had a very wacky red-burn based team which isn't known to be very good.

Just tried it 1 time and failed so wanted to ask if there is a specific comp or a tactic for it, but it seems the only difference is the mana problem and it solves itself later on the run. Thx for the reply o7

currently using burn team in WD4 here. It's very good imo if you have Dancer backline and a Burn DPS at the frontline, you can consistently apply burns and further boost it with fire gems. The thicc ghost boss does not even cause me that much hassle even though the fire DPS's skill only target 2 enemies.

That sounds really fun, I keep wanting to do a full on burn team but always seem to get sidetracked into doing a mix of something.

Just started this myself, I suspect Green is stronger than usual since it is unequipped/reequipped each floor, functionally healing your party for its effect value.

Really though, its a matter of spending a larger portion of crystals on Potion/Healing/Mana gems and making sure you get some form of passive combat healing early on. Keeping spare units to swap in for your party is one way to handle movement with zero mana, provided you're careful enough to avoid pathing that results in a monster trap.

I managed to pass it in my first run. I would recommend using defensive team. In the midgame, you would likely suffer from life penalty because of 0 mana, So any sort of healing could help a lot. Healing + counter is always a good combo in this game to reserve good status. I used to have only two chars alive after the first boss. Green Wind is absolutely a savior. Rolling a team healing potion gives me a come back, and I generally heal up my team within fights. Predator fang is also a good gem to have to restore your mana. Since defensive team kills quite slow, it is actually effective.

Finished my run. Turns out mana drain isn't nearly the threat that stronger enemies/bosses are. Ended up steamrolling it through sheer brute force, a timely doubling pit plus 7 uses of Magic Hammer led to having three Rank 3 Golds, a R2 Gold, and two R2 Silvers along with Truestrike 2 and other offensive goodies. Didn't end up with any party healers or defensive tools save for a late R1 Green, but gems were sufficient on their own.

That will work until WD3, when you reach the castle and meet the Soots, they will slam you into oblivion with just one skill (a nightmare if all 3 of them use it) even if you have 240 bonus hp from green. You know what's more fun? 3 ogres and 2 deaths team. Each time you decrease Death's stack all 3 of the ogres heal and increase damage.

Oh, that's a good use of the dancer. I should use that next time.

That is actually one of the fun parts of this game. Another one would be the turtle + thunder spirit + fairy combo, which could sometimes push you to the edge of death, since you may not have that much damage to pull off the enemy front line early on.

I've cleared every dungeon with the princess, in order.

You can clear WM6 and LH5 without a significant number of defensive symbols. It is meta to spam defensive symbols, but its also not the only way to successfully play the game.

bump necro because I just did this. Orange and heals is the way to go, especially early. You can ignore mana and heal off of enemies a lot
