any way to disable those mid second flashes?

I don't wanna sound like a ♥♥♥♥♥, I'm loving the game so far, but those flashes are making me more nervous than anything else in the game. Do they have a gameplay meaning or are they just there to ♥♥♥♥ with us? lol

I think they stop after a while; I don't see them after a while during long play sessions. I also may be completely glazing over them during gameplay.
