Is it possible to complete the platforming section before the Correspondence boss?
...and does anything special happen if you do?

Before I found all the keys and babies I thought one of them might be hidden at the end of that pre-boss area with the steadily approaching eyes in the background. Clearly that's not the case, but I'm still wondering how long that area is. I've gotten pretty far into it before dying without seeing anything except more level. Is there anything hidden in there?

Yes, It teleports you far into the boss. Specifically, it teleports you to the horizontal platform/puzzle room near the end of the boss. Its super handy on the left hand path as it skips a tough part, but the room is on a tight timer
