My top 3
1. Utkena 64. Goofy and charming with a creepy ending. The cheat codes are fun to mess around with PATE making the game quite creepy for me and CRISIS being a fun reference.
2. The Fruit. Love the atmosphere and the manual reloading. I actually played through the game twice. First time slow and methodical, reading all the notes and the second time sprinting through the darkness with axe in hand like a maniac.
3.Axis Mundus . I'm sucker for games like Fatal Frame and I quite enjoyed the book filling in lore about the enemies you face and the locations you visit ( although I think it's all technically the same place).
Honourable mention
The House of Unrest ( the priest one) I dunno why but I got unnerved by it, which I suppose means it was aptly named ( to me at least)
2. Uktena 64: creepy and hilarious at the same time; also good gameplay
3. Seraphixial: I liked the aesthetics of the ambience, the enemies and the guns
2. Uktena 64: Loved how it started out pretty funny, then slowly gets creepy with each level.
3. Rose of Meat: It's the most bizarre thing I've played in quite a while.
1. The House of Unrest - It never really scared me, but since I love point and click adventure games, I loved all of the puzzles. It also made me laugh when I saw that I was carrying a cross in one hand and a gun in the other.
2. The Fruit - Really enjoyed this one and even though it annoyed me, I thought the manual reloading system was super cool and unique. It definitely had the best atmosphere of any of the games.
3. Uktena 64 - It started off funny and then quickly turned freaky. I still remember playing it and being shocked to the point of literally yelling; "What the heck is that thing?!"
1. House of Unrest. Hands down my absolute favorite game in the collection and the one I keep going back to the most. It reminded me so much of old 90s FPS games like Doom. I love how the game knows it's silly and just embraces it. The boss battle actually made me cheer a bit because it's so wonderfully over the top.
2. Axis Mundi: I didn't expect a "Fatal Frame" style game in the collection, but man was I pleasantly surprised. I loved how it's use of folklore to tell the story and it's atmosphere. I think the developer has said he wasn't aware of the series when he made the game, which really blows my mind given how much he really captured the essence of the series. I would love to see him make a longer game around this premise.
3. The Fruit. I really enjoyed the story and I loved the manual reloading mechanic. It really fit well in terms of the story and the slow, methodical need to reload really fit Thomas' character and the fact he openly admitted he didn't know how to use a gun. A lot of little, tiny details like that made it really come alive. I also enjoyed the incantation combat mechanics and wished it was used more in the later half.
