How important is playing the Dread collections in order?

Is there a continued story through all the different collections or is it just a very minimal side thing?

The overworld sections (Where you choose which game you want to play) of Dread X Collections 2, 3, The Hunt, and possibly 5? (I haven't played it yet) Are self-contained stories that can be enjoyed without playing the others at all. They are connected in-universe in a few ways but knowledge of these connections isn't necessary.

1,2,3 is a continued story, especially 2 and 3 since you play as the same character I'm playing 4 now and so far, I don't think it continues the story but I haven't finished it yet so I can't say for sure.
Edit: Four is also connected so do play in order if you can.
