Powers of the Gods you kill?
So, the trailer and the difficulty select screens both gave me the impression that we're supposed to be able to affect the world with the powers of the gods we kill (make the rivers become blood being the example I remember from the trailer), but I've separately killed both the Farming and River Gods in different playthroughs, and if I gained the ability to do anything other than notice the farms and rivers are now barren, I can't work out how the mechanic functions... Anyone have any idea?

If you get an ability, it'll tell you right after the fight and you'll see it in your skill book, too. The goddess of rain gave me the ability to make it rain, for example.

The god of blood lets you create blood puddles and summon vampires. Some of the others just affect the world in general, as you saw with farms and river.

The god of swamps will drain the swamp and stop the acid rain in that area.

Moon and Sun affect the day/night cycle. Seems like killing one of them makes day/night permanent and killing both massively speeds up the cycle.

It does seem like the true effect of killing a god isn't gaining a power other than the chunk of souls you gain, but rather all the passive effects on the world of no longer having a god to manage that aspect.

There's a page on the community wiki about what change/abilities each god brings, but it's obviously spoilers:
