Fisherman's key? *spoilers*
I got the beer bottle for the fisherman and then told him the truth that all the people in his village had been killed. He then drank the beer and died without giving me any kind of reward.

Do I need to do something here in order to get a reward, which I assume is the key to his fishing hut, or did my game just bug out?

next time lie.
Well poobutt. At least it didn't give you anything tangible, as far as I can tell, just more sadness porn.
I think you are just locked out until your next playthrough. You are supposed to lie in EVERYTHING if you want to collect all the items.

The game literally has "Lies" in it's name and they introduce you to lying at the very beginning of the game, you also have to lie in almost everything in order to reach the true ending, you also need to lie in order to acquire some items during base game playthrough as well. It's not really a stupid choice, it makes sense in terms of the lore.

i mean it's stupid in this case. he will die anyway, so there isn't even point in lying

yeah, just did the same RIP
this is the second quest that lost in the DLC, but this one was the one I wanted to do, at least nothing so important is lost, u can just watch it on youtube.
and yup I agree with the comments, there's no point of lie or truth since he's dying anyway, if he got the key then damn it just take it since he's dead in front of ya. it make no sense.

He has a dialogue after you answer him so I guess it makes sense lore wise, it's not like he doesn't say anything after you answer him. It might not make sense to you, but this game is built around lying and it pretty much forces you to lie, that is why many things are locked if you don't lie, most of them are some records or just some papers anyway (which usually will give you more lore). They encourage players to use the lie options by doing it this way.

You definitely missed the entire point of the titular "lies". It's not actually a matter of telling factual truths or not. It's a matter of either acting like a cold, uncomprehending robot or like an empathetic, caring human being. If you give strictly logical answers, answers that don't make any sense (like for certain riddles), or you refuse to help people, you act like a robot. If you act with empathy and exercise your ability to lie, giving answers that make people feel better and going out of your way to do nice things, you become more human.

While morally I disagree with the implicit thought process, the idea with lying to the fisherman is that you're giving him peace and happiness in his final moments. Instead of dying knowing that everyone he knows and loves is dead and that his battle was meaningless, he dies thinking that he lived his life well and that he's being celebrated in the town for his incredible catch.

Not strictly true; you are supposed to give the most 'human' (a.k.a. considerate) response to collect all the items. This is almost always lying, but requires a truthful response for Eugenie's questline.

And before anyone says "but lying and telling the truth to Eugenie both give different mutually exclusive rewards", they've changed that in the recent DLC patch; so that one of those two records now drops when killing impostor Alidoro, and the other is only offered when completing her quest correctly (i.e. telling her the truth about him).

If that's truly what you believe, then what's the point in doing anything, given that we will all die anyway? (Read LuckyCheshire's post above for more in-depth reasoning.)

damn, I didn't know this. and that's one another stupid bad choice to be made imo. well, sure now u can get the record easier, I can't remember them all now but there's the all lie, and all truth way, so that's that's u gonna play both anyway if u want to get all endings

It's to give him comfort, so he can die believing his people have some kind of hope.

Tell the truth to Euginie every time, and once you get the Cryptic Vessel from the Parrot give it to Venigni before you talk to Euginie again.
