- First phase literally only uses normal weapon attacks like you. If you have reasonable reflexes, only his sword mode (as opposed to greatsword) should be a threat. You should parry this. You should understand how to parry well by this point in the game, but either way, first phase should become a cakewalk after enough tries.
- Second phase has a lot of combos that are smart to hold block during (hold the button down, unpress and press again when you want to parry, this way you're still guarding even if you mistime the parry). For the rest—basically all of the attacks where he pauses before executing them—you're going to have to learn the timing and parry it. If you parry them successfully, he will stun himself and give you a few seconds to hit him, making the fight much easier.
Anyway, if by "this bs", you mean having to memorize a boss's attacks, then yeah, there's more of it in the DLC. How did you beat Laxasia???
Personally I think Nameless Puppet is one of the most fair yet challenging boss fights in Lies of P. There is a rhythm that you can get the hang of, at least in phase 1. Phase 2 is a bit more hectic and fast but still has a manageable rhythm.
I strongly recommend taking Netsa's tips for the boss fight. Otherwise keep practicing and you'll beat him eventually.
That being said, if you play this like its dark souls you did not understand how this game works...
