Is it just me and my friends or did they kill the games difficulty?
My friends and I got the DLC just after launch and played it together on Discord. I personally completed it, but my other friends kind of quit halfway through. Then the update with the New Game+ scaling and general DLC scaling dropped, and it made the game way too easy.

After the update, I started a New Game+ to get all the achievements, and I steamrolled all the bosses. Then my friends started playing the DLC again and beat a boss on their third try—one that had taken me and another friend several hours to beat.

I don’t know if we know exactly what that update did to enemy damage and health, but it feels like damage has been cut in half or something. Another friend of mine started the game from scratch and was able to tank a Romeo combo (the one with the fire grindstone). That just seems crazy to me—it really takes away from the game.

I mean, sure, the story and game design are still excellent, but the bosses can’t really be experienced properly unless you fight them on difficulty 4 or 5 in the rematches. And yes, we all played on Legendary Stalker.

Yeah, if you've already played the game before, it's going to feel easy your second time through. Happens in every game. NG+1 has never been hard, and tanking Romeo's combo with a high block ratio weapon has always been possible (and if you mean "tanked" as in literally got hit by every attack, surviving that is not a thing).

Some streamers have done extensive testing involving rolling back the patch and found that the bosses have not been adjusted at all. What they adjusted were just the regular field enemies in the DLC.

And also they did increase the player scaling on NG+ yeah, but as for your friend tanking the combo from Romeo on NG they would have been just as likely to do that pre-patch.

that's pretty cool; the patch notes were a little unclear which enemies were affected so it's nice to have confirmation.
I do think a big chunk of the variance in first impressions are attributable to muscle memory, playstyle, level (base defense adds up!), etc...

Yea for sure, some people went into this game with a lot of parrying/perfect block experience from some other game in this genre while others (like myself) went into this game with close to zero parry experience. I was a dodge only kind of guy until this game and sekiro got me into parry mechanics and yea it definitely kicked my butt at first lol, but it felt so good once it all clicked.

Like you said, there really is a lot of variables when it comes to how hard an individual will find any particular boss in these games even outside mechanical skill like stat attribution and gear. What one person may get stuck on for several hours another may get through in an hour, thats kind of the beauty of these games everyones experience is different right?

agreed; it also lends very well to replayability since weapon choice can influence how you should approach some fights very strongly. The DLC weapons in particular have a lot of powerful movement across the board to mask the issues similar weapons had in the base game, and the unique gimmicks associated with some were very entertaining to figure out how to use effectively. La Vendetta feels like a super Police Baton for example, and Silent Evangelist's Mace is a love letter to Big Pipe Wrench and Coil Mjolnir (no surprise that the handle works excellently with them in turn)...
