you're fine as long as the enemy isn't heavily resistant to your damage type; you might do more or less damage by using a different crank but you'll get more status damage out of advance crank which can even things out

FYI if you ever use a non-elemental weapon: using an Advance Crank on weapons that do not naturally do elemental damage is effectively identical to their normal behavior outside of better performance with elemental grindstones

So advance cranking a non elemental handle basically kinds does ♥♥♥♥ all to help with the damage?

if you're not using elemental grinders it doesn't change non-elemental weapons' performance at all from what I can tell, yes, advance cranks are basically 'balance crank but technically better.'
