As the game is stil lin Early Access, gamepad controls are also not fully finalized yet, and a lot of the features you requested have been on our to-do list for a long time.
Gamepad controls are not designed to work in conjunction with mouse and keyboard input, due to the fact that this would cause various issues for players who are playing on a device that truly features both, like a computer. Currently, gamepad input is disabled until a single gamepad input is detected, like a button press or a menu navigation, and mouse input is disabled until a single mouse movement or mouse button click is detected.
This behavior still allows using the Steam Deck's trackpads for mouse input if necessary, but since all controls are fully mapped onto regular gamepad buttons, the need to do so should never arise. Can you describe the reason you still require using mouse inputs when playing with a gamepad?
I don't fully remember why I wanted to use mouse and gamepad controls at the same time. I think it was because navigating the menu with gamepad was too tedious.
In the meantime I figured that it's easier to just set the controls to mouse and keyboard in Steam and map keyboard keys to the buttons as I need them.
When writing my first post I forgot that this was a thing. I had similar issues with gamepad controls in "Slay the princess". Setting it to map buttons to keyboard keys solved all my issues and I suppose that this will solve all issues I have with controlling Tiny Life :)
Thank you for taking time to respond. I love your game.
