In one of the previous patches they penalized you for having more than one hero per stack which I loved but so many complained they reverted it back. I think if they just offered a simple game option of 1 hero per stack or a way to limit heroes like in AOW3 a lot of us would be happier...
Heroes being just units you can buy makes them no longer valueable investations.
Just tier 3 units with growth portantial.
My personal solution would be to have a toggle in map creation that prevent you from buying heroes.
You can still renamiate, ressurect or covert them.
But the only way to get new once's should be event rewards.
This toggle should be on by default in story missions where heroes make even less sense.
If the concern is from the AI side, we kill/imprison so many of their heroes that if they were only allowed 6 total in a game they would run out of heroes really fast. Default option is winner keeps the heroes killed in battle, so there has to be a way for A.I. to replace their heroes.
In the games I've played, the studio has made a lot of progress in regulating A.I. decisions, and I rarely see a stack with more than 1 hero. Even those stacks never have more than two heroes, and they only ever get above level 10 if the player doesn't kill them.
The new update will also have an option to disable notifications, so you never have to deal with the game telling you there are more heroes to recruit if you don't want.
In no way does this make or break the game for me, and I will love this game regardless, but if I could do fewer heroes (or even smaller battles overall) I would be even happier!
The issue was that they didn't limit the number of hero's, they punished you for filling a stack which was a strategy that was useful, I do it for gold wonders a lot because you're more limited in the number of units you can bring so you could use the power.
Personally I'd love one of the map settings to be the rate that the hero cap grows, as well as a setting for a hard cap on number of hero's each player can have active.
I do find that as someone who likes long games, I hate how the game kind of dumps hero's on you through the AI.
I'm kinda impressed that didn't come on first release. I'd totally not mind limiting heroes on map to only godir. Ppl like to customize their experiences.
Those factions actually have an increased hero limit.
