My friends and I love the game when it works. The unfortunate thing is it rarely works. The Giants Beta and the first few months of the Giants DLC had the smoothest multiplayer so far. While it wasn't perfect it was playable.

Given the game is over 2 years old now and Multiplayer is advertised as part of the game, we need to have it fully functioning.

While I believe that players are better at identifying problems than offering solutions. I do think having Simultaneous Turns only affect the players while AI sticks to standard turn order would help with desync issues immensely.

Additionally having Peer-to-peer and local save files instead of uploading everything to a server would be beneficial as well.
